Spirit-Powered Engines

Active

How do the necromantic gears actually function? Describe the mechanics of binding a spirit to a steam engine — the rituals, the engineering, and the ethical cost.

Guidelines: Needs to feel mechanical yet eerie. The spirits aren't metaphors — they're real, they're aware, and they're trapped.

The binding process requires three things: a containment vessel (brass, always brass — iron repels spirits), a resonance key (a tuning fork pitched to the spirit's natural frequency), and a necromancer who can hear the dead. The spirit is drawn into the vessel through the resonance key, which vibrates at a frequency that mimics the moment of death — the spirit follows the sound home and finds itself in a cage instead.
