Mika's Insomnia

Active

Mika Sato hasn't slept properly in three years. Help me explore how chronic insomnia shapes her perception, her relationships, and her ability to investigate. What does the world look like when you haven't slept?

Constraints: Mika is sharp but fraying at the edges. Her insomnia is both her curse and her superpower — she's awake when the signal broadcasts because she can't sleep, and she can't sleep because of what the signal shows her.

On day four without sleep, the edges of things start to hum. Not vibrate — hum, like everything is a tuning fork struck at a frequency just below hearing. Mika's hands shake when she pours coffee. She sees movement in mirrors that isn't there. She writes notes to herself because her short-term memory is dissolving like sugar in rain. The notes say things like "the signal is real" and "don't trust Tuesday" and she doesn't remember writing any of them.
